After waiting tirelessly for what seemed like decades for a new MI, he recently dropped a single - This beat dey Knock (TBDK) - on the 19th of March 2021. Ironically, this new song took us back to the old MI that was big on commercializing rap while dropping great bars and smooth delivery. Though people believed it to be him testing the waters with new sounds. However, it's not so new a sound, as it's a fusion of old school hip-hop beat produced by Chopsticks and sick enough to make your head fall from bopping to the sound.
TBDK was initially titled Jollof, this was disclosed by the rapper himself on a tweet stating that the song had veteran rappers Erigga and Sinzu featured on it. However, when he finally released the jam some months after with the new title, many thought it was a new song.
TBDK gained mainstream appeal across all social media platform because of its vibe-able sound. Had series of radio airplays while topping the charts on most Music streaming sites.
Fans enjoyed the song as soon as it was released and requested that MI dropped the beat to the song. This led to MI officially declaring the #TBDKChallenge open. He uploaded the beat on YouTube, announced 500,000 naira as the cash price for the winner of the challenge and encouraged artists to participate.
Since its release, the challenge has gathered lots of entries from artists across Africa including established rap acts like VectorDaViper, TerryThaRapMan and upcoming artistes too.
